about our mission

Poe's Purpose is a 501(c)3 educational organization located just outside of Athens, Ga. Our goal is to provide our local communities accurate information on small animals and their required care. We love visiting our local schools, libraries, and festivals to provide this knowledge first-hand to the kids as these pets are most almost always purchased as "starter pets". These animals require a substantial amount of care that should never be a child's sole responsibility but a full family commitment. Educating families is an important part of keeping critters in their homes due to the misinformation provided by many suppliers of these exotic species. While we do not intake owner surrenders into our program typically, we do like to offer to help find direct placement into homes for those who are seeking to re-home their pets when they can no longer commit to their care. We always try to provide assistance to keep pets in their furever homes if their family is facing temporary hardships. We love being able to assist in this way! We love it even more when individuals who are considering adding exotic species to their families contact us for information on care beforehand. Education is a key role in ensuring they thrive.
